The Deutz harbour was created from the historic ferry connection between Deutz and Cologne and was opened in 1907, after construction had begun in 1904. It comprised two basins for industrial and security purposes and counted the Leysieffer mill among its first major customers. In the 1920s, the harbour was equipped with various cranes and played an important role in the chemical industry. Most recently, animal feed, liquid chalk and scrap metal are handled there, while the Cologne fire brigade and water police are also stationed there.
